2016 CORE Activities

Activity Title –  IWRM Training for the Youth

Daloy Dunong Youth Forum

A pre-event to the 3rd International River Summit

November 23, 2016  |  Macasandig Elementary School

In order to build healthy, sustainable communities for future generations, we must develop and engage the youth into becoming stewards of the earth. In 2015, the United Nations have adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), which need to be achieved over the next 15 years to ensure the sustainability of the planet and prosperity of human life. One of these goals is to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

The Philippine Water Partnership in collaboration with Maynilad conducted a pre-event to the 3rd  International River Summit (IRS), the Daloy Dunong Youth Forum which include presentations from major players in the country’s water and environment sector. At least 500 students from Macasandig Elementary School learned about river systems, water conservation, and climate change adaptation.

Maynilad’s Daloy Dunong program aims to engage elementary school children in tackling responsible water use, health benefits of water, and the environmental ills that affect water supply.  These messages are delivered through fun audio-visual lectures, puppet shows and water-themed games that ensure message retention among children ages 7-12. The program further stresses that it takes great expertise and resources to bring clean water to millions of Filipinos every day, highlighting the need to protect watersheds and the role of Maynilad in building healthier communities.
